Laminated Glass

Laminated glass consists of two or more glass layers bonded with an interlayer. Even when broken, the glass remains intact — held together by the interlayer — making it ideal for safety, security, and acoustic applications.

What Is Laminated Glass?

Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more glass panes together with a PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) or EVA interlayer under heat and pressure. When the glass breaks, the interlayer holds the fragments in place, preventing them from scattering and maintaining the integrity of the glazed opening.

This "hold together" property makes laminated glass the preferred choice for applications where safety, security, and sound insulation are priorities.

Key Benefits

  • Remains intact when broken — no dangerous shards
  • Excellent sound insulation — reduces noise transmission
  • UV protection — blocks up to 99% of UV radiation
  • Enhanced security — difficult to penetrate even when broken
  • Available with tinted or frosted interlayers
  • Can be combined with toughened glass for maximum performance

Types of Laminated Glass

Standard Laminated Glass

Two panes of float glass bonded with a clear PVB interlayer. Provides basic safety and UV protection.

  • Common configurations: 4+4, 5+5, 6+6mm
  • Clear or tinted options
Acoustic Laminated Glass

Uses a specially formulated acoustic PVB interlayer for enhanced sound insulation — ideal for homes near busy roads or airports.

  • Significantly better sound reduction than standard glass
  • Available in various thicknesses
Toughened Laminated Glass

Combines the strength of toughened glass with the safety properties of laminated glass — the highest performance safety glass.

  • Maximum strength and safety
  • Required for overhead glazing

Applications

  • Overhead glazing (skylights, rooflights)
  • Balustrades and railings
  • Security glazing
  • Acoustic windows for noise reduction
  • Glass floors and walkways
  • Frameless glass doors
