Float Glass (Clear Glass)

Float glass is the most basic and widely used glass in construction. Manufactured by floating molten glass on molten tin, it results in a smooth, flat surface with uniform thickness — the foundation of modern architectural glazing.

What Is Float Glass?

Float glass is produced by the float process, where molten glass is poured onto a bed of molten tin. The glass floats on the tin, spreading out and forming a flat, uniform sheet as it cools. This process produces glass with a perfectly smooth surface and consistent thickness throughout.

Float glass is the base material from which most other glass types (toughened, laminated, coated) are manufactured. In its basic form, it is used extensively in construction for windows, doors, and glazing applications.
